What a trip to Cusco costs
Market ranges for the whole trip, not only the tours. These are reference prices verified in 2026, and they tell you whether a quote sits where it should.
By traveller profile
| Profile | Per day | One week | What it covers |

The fixed costs
| Item | Price | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Machu Picchu entrance | USD 20 to 60 | Depending on the circuit. Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain are the dearest. |
| Full Cusco Tourist Ticket | S/ 130 · USD 35 | Valid 10 days for 16 sites. A partial one at S/ 70 covers the city tour. |
| Return train, tourist class | from USD 80 | From Ollantaytambo. Vistadome runs 140 to 180 and the Hiram Bingham 500 to 600. |
| Shuttle bus up to the citadel | included in tours | Compulsory unless you walk up. In high season the queue reaches 45 minutes. |
| A night in Aguas Calientes | USD 40 to 120 | Mid-range hotel. It is the most expensive town in the region per square metre. |
| Set lunch | S/ 12 to 20 · under USD 6 | At markets such as San Pedro: soup, main course, drink and dessert. |
| Dorm bed | USD 8 to 15 | In Cusco. A basic private room runs 20 to 40. |
Half the budget is not charged by the agency
Tickets, train, lodging and food take a large share of the trip, and none of it shows up in the price of a tour. Comparing agency quotes alone therefore gives an incomplete picture of what you will spend.
Machu Picchu is the big line, and most of it is the train
The entrance costs between 20 and 60 dollars, but getting there costs considerably more: the return train starts at 80 in tourist class. The Hidroeléctrica road is cheaper and takes many more hours.
The Tourist Ticket is always bought separately
No tour in the region includes it, and that is the most common confusion. The full ticket costs S/ 130 and covers 16 sites over 10 days; if you are only doing the city tour, the partial one at S/ 70 is enough and saves you the difference.
Where not to economise
On an unlicensed guide, an unregistered operator and travel insurance. Those are the three places where the price difference is small and the difference in consequences is enormous. Everything else — hotel, food, train class — can be adjusted without risk.
